By Faryn Clark

You may have just heard about gluten-free diet but, this has been around since celiac disease has been discovered. Today, it has become so popular among dieticians and health conscious individuals because of its amazing health results to anyone who takes and observes it.

What do you know about gluten-free diet?

By the term itself, a diet that restricts any food that contains the protein gluten. Some foods that are not allowed include rye and bread. This diet (though enjoyed by many to help them lose weight) was originally formulated to help people with celiac disease.

Unlike what most people think, gluten-free diet is never hard to follow. We have already eaten a lot of gluten-free foods in our diet. The only thing is that we are not aware that those foods are gluten-free. Manufacturers are even aware of the popularity that this diet plan has reached, which is why they have started to produce gluten-free alternatives such as breads and pasta.

Below are some of the foods that (naturally) do not contain any gluten. You may ask your nutritionist about these foods to know when to eat them.

1. Nuts, seeds, and beans

2. Fish and meat

3. Eggs (fresh)

4. Eggs

5. Green vegetables and fruits

These products are helpful in starting out this diet program but, you still need to double check them for any possible contamination or gluten mixture. Check the label or ask the store owner about the manufacturer of the product.

Now, get rid of the following products as they are rich in gluten:

- Rye

- Barley

- Triticale

- Triticale

These products or foods are rich in vitamins and minerals but you must remove them from your daily diet otherwise; your celiac will not be cured (if you have any). Take supplements containing the vitamins and minerals that the above products have.

What are the alternatives?

There are many alternatives available in the market. All you have to do is check on the label and see if they fit to your taste. The following are some of the most common alternatives that you may want to get rid of:

* Pasta (in food chains or restaurants)

* Cakes

* Sauce

* Beer (from stores)

* Cereal

* Breads

* Salad dressing

* Imitated seafood

* Soup base

* Sauces

This diet plan may give you the impression of a weight loss program but, it is not. This diet is mainly designed to treat those people who are suffering from celiac disease. However, because of its effectiveness in taking away unnecessary weight to people taking this diet, its popularity in losing weight has tremendously increased. Gluten-free diet means that you replace your old favorites with new foods that are safe and affordable without depriving yourself from eating the way you have been used to.
